Not as Harmless as They Look? It’s Because You Can’t See Them!
Did you know that there are millions of micro organisms living in your house causing ‘natural’ reactions like allergies and asthma? Just because you can’t see them with your naked eye doesn’t mean they don’t exist! Since 1694 when the inventor of the microscope discovered these micro organisms, we have learnt of the existence of dust mites living in our beds, our pillows, curtains, toys and carpets. These dust mites live in the dust that collects in your house and they move in – to stay.

“Even the cleanest looking households can harbor a host of invisible allergens…about 80% of homes…have dust mites.” – Better Homes and Gardens, May 1999
It’s a scary thought to have, that the constant sneezing, the sinus problems, the post-nasal drip you struggle with every day are a side effect of these little unwanted guests living in your sheets. The older the mattress, the more dust mites it may contain. Anything from 100‘000 to a million of them are most probably living in your mattress right now. Even new furniture is shortly overrun with these scavengers, spreading the problem rather than solving it.
“Half of the weight of your pillow is collected skin cells, mould, bacteria, dust mites and their waste.”
Did you know that 20 million people are allergic to dust mites in the United States alone? Dust mites are microscopic organisms that look like spiders or beetles and they feed on your dead skin. One person can shed as much as 50’000 flakes of skin a day, enough to keep an empire of dust mites alive and well where you sleep.
